Frustrated that your company’s business is based on your web portal, and it isn’t performing like it should?  Azul Systems hates web portals that are slow and prone to crash, and we don’t like the fact that they are energy hogs (Gartner reports that 90-95% of the time the servers are powered on but idle).  We know something about using compute hardware to transform an industry.  Azul System’s Java Compute Appliances are already a popular choice for demanding financial applications, such as program trading operations, credit risk analysis, and business intelligence – with up to 864 processors & 768GB of memory onboard it is a blazingly fast platform for any compute-intensive requirement.  The latest generation of Azul Compute Appliances addresses more than plug and chug, it takes direct aim at something everyone using the Web hates - slow, unresponsive, crash-prone web portals.   E-commerce websites that are slow and occasionally crash under unpredictable loading cause d

Web 3.0 is lean, clean and green: Use public transportation on the information super highway

Tim Sanders has discovered a new movement afoot in the web world: socially responsibility web programming.  Initially, he noticed an underground conversation about low power , purpose-driving programming that reduces the energy use by its users.  If Google had a different color scheme (less white, more gray or muted color), there is evidence it could save a massive amount of energy.  Most programmers, though, don't realize that they have the power to create the web equivalent of the Prius.  According to Sanders, social responsibility and sustainability are about to jump out of heavy manufacturing and consumer goods – and squarely into the computer programming and web world, changing the basis for competition for capital, eye balls and top talent.

Tim Sanders is a combination of Warren Buffet and Paul Hawken and is an irrepressible advocate for good values in the business world. His fir

I'm writing about Better Place, one of the first venture-backed companies to tackle this energy crisis head-on. Former SAP exec and Better Place founder Shai Agassi aims to reduce oil dependency through the creation of a transportation infrastructure that supports electric vehicles. The idea behind it is to charge for the eletric grid usage and make the cars so cheap that no one will ever think of buying a gasoline car.

You can read more about Better Place and Agassi in a recent NY Times op-ed by Thomas Friedman here: http://www.nytimes.com/2008/07/27/opinion/27friedman.html?_r=1&scp=3&sq=shai%20agassi&st=cse&oref=slogin. Also, Better Place has just launched its first campaign targeted to the public, bascially it's social networking for the oil dependancy issue, www.betterplace.com/10words. Check it out, play around and post your own mini-festo.

Francisco, I'll be happy to connect you with a spokesperson if needed. Even if you don't vote, go check out the 10 words site. Thanks all

All of us have fond memories of the Jetsons, George and Judy enjoying the good life thanks to technology.  We also have not so fond memories of dining out ... slow service, get me my check already, rushing to catch a movie.  Imagine the integration of true technoloyg into the restaurant experience.  Dallas-based TableTop Media is rolling out a table top device that sits on your restaurant table and enables you to, well, do it all -- pay-on-demand when you are ready to go.  Want to split your check, have at it.  Leave your gratuity.  Piece of cake.  While you're hanging out waiting for your hot wings, watch a movie trailer.  Heck, buy your tickets there and now and the TableTop device prints your tickets.  Out with kids who left their DS games at home.  No problem.  TableTop offers games.  Short on time and need to buy a gift for the spouse, grab a browser and start shopping.  And let's say you're dining at your fav Mexican Restaurant.  Chances are, you can tune into a video on how to m

How do you make productive use of otherwise unproductive CO2? How about cleaning with it?

Dry ice blast cleaning is being used by manufacturers and contract cleaners for a variety of environmentally responsible cleaning applications; from cleaning rubber tire molds and semiconductor equipment to mold remediation from flood-damaged buildings. The blast cleaning process involves accelerating small dry ice pellets at supersonic speeds through advanced hoses and nozzles. The dry ice pellets create a mini-explosion on the surface being cleaned separating the contaminant from the surface. Upon impact with the surface, the dry ice pellets sublimate (return to their original gaseous state), and the only thing left to clean is contaminant. There is no secondary waste, no chemicals to dispose of and no need to use water. Where did dry ice blast cleaning come from, how does it work and how is it benefiting companies and consumers today?
